Arnold Richard Delveaux

June 30, 1934 — February 1, 2013

Arnold (Arnie, Skip, Dad, Grandpa, Nicely Nicely, "Jack") born June 30. 1934, died peacefully February 1, 2013 after a brief illness. He left us surrounded by love and with Trudy - his wife, his "Goldie", his bride of 55 years by his side. Son of the late Phyllis and Arnold Delveaux and son-in-law of the late Augusta and Robert Brown. Devoted father, mentor, friend and hero of Robert (Shannon) Delveaux; Karen Delveaux and William (Buasorn) Delveaux. Loving friend and father-in-law to Rick Holm and Nancy (Gard) Jones. Best big brother of Jack (Jayne) Delveaux and Marlene (Richard) Reynolds; Fond brother-in-law of Dotty (Mike Moutrie) Carringi and the late Kent Noorlag. Nephew of Elizabeth Anderson and the late William Anderson - who were brought together by Skip's matchmaking intuition. Devoted and proud grandfather of "Big" Andrew, Sean, Summer, Michael, Marissa, Jake, Luke, Jaidee, Kristi, Kelli, Art, "Little" Andrew, Anna, Daniel and Matthew. Uncle Skip, Uncle Arnie to Victoria, Michaele, Jack Jr., Todd, Kent Jr., Heidi, Jon, Nanci, Pete and Ronny. Uncle Arn to many friends and to his neighbors of Friar's Cove. Lifelong friend of Robert (Papa Jack) Buttala. Arnold attended Brenan grade school in Chicago and was a champion swimmer at Fenger High School. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign with a degree in Business Administration. Arnold was a real estate broker for over 30 years and enjoyed his retirement years traveling with his wife, family and many friends. Arnold was a true gentleman and showed kindness and respect to all he met. The first with a joke or a good-natured tease, he was also first with a helping hand for anyone in need. He loved a show and was the scene-stealing star of many community theater productions, Nostalgia Night performances and family "showtime" singing and dancing right in his own living room. Arnold served in the U.S. Army on Okinawa at the end of the Korean War. A proud veteran, Arnold never failed to unfurl the banners and blast the patriotic music from his porch every Fourth of July. It was an annual tradition when Arnie served up the music and Trudy served up the Mimosas as the neighborhood parade passed by their home. He was forever the boy with a dog and there truly was no luckier creature on earth than the dog that crossed Arnold's path or lived in his home. Animals and children sensed his good soul and it was the children of the family who looked forward to Christmas every year when Arnold would play Santa and pass out gifts to all who had prepared a song, dance or joke for him. Arnold loved to fish and spent many wonderful times with his brother, sons, nephews, grandsons and friends fishing the lakes of Canada. His next trip was planned for June 2013. The outpouring of love and affection; cards, visits, good wishes and support Arnold received after his diagnosis in December was overwhelming. He was loved and remembered by so many. He leaves us all better for having known him. He leaves us all happier for having loved him. He leaves us all knowing that after all, he really was a wealthy man. Memorial Services are pending. Donations may be made to the Les Turner ALS Foundation - In Memory of Jon Noorlag - 5550 W. Touhy Avenue, Suite 302, Skokie, IL 60077 or to the American Lung Association
