Ira pronounced (Eerah) was born in Ukraine as a precocious child. She was high spirited and loved to be the center of attention. War broke out and that came to a halt. Her limited family fled and ended up in a German refugee camp and learned the language in short order. They established close friendships there, so when they immigrated to the USA, friendships continued. She joined a Ukrainian culture group where she learned and performed the traditional Hopak. With her striking appearance she met her late ex-husband Anatole (on leave from service).
Ira is preceded by her daughter, 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters and their families, and her late stepbrother’s families.
Her eldest and only grandson renamed her “Babounia number one".
A short service for immediate family will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 10 am followed by a gravesite service at Elmwood Cemetery.
