Kathryn “Kathy” Remus, née Segon, 73 of Addison passed away on January 26th, 2025, following a difficult and courageous battle against an aggressive cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Kathy was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished grandmother. She is survived by her husband Arthur, her daughters Tara (Todd) Jacobson and Stefanie (Jason) Brown, her grandchildren Alyssa, Kaitlyn, Lily, and Zachary, and her sisters Patricia and Joan. She is preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Stella Segon and her sister Geraldine.
Kathy met her husband of 52 years while working at the Addison Post Office where she worked in administration for over 30 years. Kathy retired at the young age of 52. She dedicated much of her time to making memories with her grandchildren, vacationing in the Northwoods, and supporting Keeper Lures, her and Arthur’s leisure business.
Kathy was a selfless woman who always put others and their needs before her own. She was a friend to many and an unparalleled source of passionate energy. Her grandchildren will forever remember her as caring, faithful, strong, and the maker of the best M&M pancakes.
Faith was the source of Kathy’s strength. From her hospital bed she would often text “God is good all the time, all the time God is good”. Even when receiving bad news from doctors she, along with her husband Arthur, focused forward on the next approach to treatment. Together, they never gave up hope.
Kathy shared the news of her cancer with family in early 2024. She pursued local treatment but ultimately decided to move to Minnesota to be treated at Mayo Clinic. While it was far from home and all that she knew, she wanted the best chance of survival. She and Arthur spent nine months in Minnesota fighting cancer. This past Christmas, the entire family traveled to Minnesota to be with her. On Christmas morning doctors delivered the news that her journey was concluding, and Kathy returned home for hospice care. In the weeks that followed she was surrounded daily by her husband, her kids, and her grandchildren as well as many cherished friends. She ultimately passed beautifully and peacefully in her sleep.
