Manfred “Fred” Hess, 86 of Addison. Beloved husband of Judy. Loving father of Jennifer (Mike) Wright and Kurt (Sue) Hess. Cherished grandfather of Kari (Marcus) Hartnett, Kristin Wright, Matthew Hess, Timothy Hess and Tyler Wright. Dearest great-grandfather of Emmitt Hartnett and Emersyn Hartnett. Dear brother of Ray (Anne) Hess.
After graduating Lane Tech High School, Fred enlisted in the Air National Guard and was assigned to Amarillo Air Force Base. He tested for and joined the 108th Air Refueling Squadron as a jet fighter mechanic at O’Hare International Airport and was honorably discharged June 6, 1962. He was then self employed as a Snap-on-Tool salesman. After selling his tool business he had a Shell Service Station in Glen Ellyn for about 20 years, when it became a 24/7 he decided to relocate to another service station in Itasca, where he also did on-call towing for the Itasca Police Department. He decided to get out of business for himself when a friend suggested he interview with Representative Lee Daniels to be his personal driver. When Representative Daniels retired Fred went over to the Village of Addison where he was a Community Development Inspector until he retired March 3, 2014.
