Melita Posar

Our dear friend Melita Posar has left us forever, at the age of 90, only one day shy of her 91st birthday. Mrs. Posar, who was suffering from a long and debilitating illness, passed on peacefully at her home on March 10, 2015.Born Melita Marinello, as a single child to Ruggiero Marinello, a famous philatelist, and Maria Rumenjak in Zagreb, Croatia, on the 11th of March 1924. Raised in the city center, and educated, she completed her degree in the School of Pharmacology, at the University of Zagreb.In her teenage years, at the General Consulate of Italy in Zagreb,she met Pompeo Posar, who was to become the love of her life. After a prolonged honeymoon, spanning twelve months and many European countries, the couple came to the United States. In the 1950's they made Chicago their permanent home and base from which they traveled the world extensively.A devoted spouse and partner, Melita supported her husband in his career as a world famous professional photographer for Hugh Hefner's Playboy magazine. Through her husband's work, Melita became an integral part of that career, interacting with a multitude of celebrities, notables, sports figures, artists, musicians and other leading members of contemporary society and culture.Mrs. Melita Posar was preceded by Pompeo, her husband of 55 years, who died in 2004.Melita will be fondly remembered as a kind, warm, caring and gracious friend by the many people who have had the fortune of having the opportunity to know her.Melita Posar will be interred at Graceland Cemetery, 4001 North Clark Street, Chicago on Tuesday March 17, 2015, at 2:00 pm, to be joined with her husband in their final peaceful resting place.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L Street, NW Washington DC 20037,or to PAWS Chicago, 1997 North Clybourn Avenue, Chicago, Il. 60614 in Melita Posar's memory.
